Other useful information

BED LINEN
Linen for all beds is provided.
TOWELS
Not provided – see list of items to pack

GARBAGE DISPOSAL & RECYCLING
As our homes are very remote from the nearest municipality, we do our own garbage removal. We encourage our guests to buy beer from the local “Shebeen” which is less than 1km away. This way you can return your empties and leave a much smaller impact on the environment.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE
Kindly give us a call and we will arrange the necessary.

WINDOWS AND LOCKS
Always ensure that windows are closed at night and that all doors are locked. We have 24 hour security patrolling the area for your convenience but one can never be too careful. Don’t leave any valuable belongings outside during night time as your belongings might just disappear.

LOCATION OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER
All our homes are equipped with fire extinguishers and can be found in the kitchens.

SECURITY GAURDS
We have guards patrolling the area 24 hours. Should you have an emergency, use one of the whistles that are located by the entrance doors of each house and the guard will attend immediately.

We have never had any serious issues except petty theft and sometimes intoxicated locals haggling to sell stuff but nothing to be alarmed about.

Arrival & Departure Information

ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS
The staff will wait for your arrival up to 16h00. Should you arrive later than 16h00, the security guards will assist you with the keys and instructions of which property you will be staying in.

CHECK-IN TIME
Check-in time is from 14h00 to 16h00. We can sometimes arrange an early check-in so please contact us if you will arrive early and we'll do our best, without any promises! We suggest you refer to the section on what to do if you arrive early - there is plenty to keep you entertained!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS
If you are arriving via car and have a GPS/SatNav, please use The Kraal Backpackers as your destination. If you don’t you can find us by following the map below.

VEHICLES AND ROADS
We strongly suggest that you refrain from using cars or vehicles with low clearing space. The last 2km to the homes are kept in a bad condition to ensure we keep our beaches and environment in a pristine condition. You do not need a 4x4 but we highly recommended that you use a SUV/Bakkie or similar vehicle. The roads are tarred up to the Isilimela Hospital and the reaming 4.5km is dirt/gravel road.

PARKING
Parking is provided on site. Please refrain from parking elsewhere and only use the parking spaces as indicated for the homes. We usually have a large amount of people making using of our homes and therefor request that you park as close to the homes when unpacking your vehicles and then moving them further up to the other parking areas to ensure guests arriving late can unpack conveniently as well. We have ample space for trailers located next to the driveway, between the home and the driveway.

Departure Information

CHECK-OUT PROCESS
When you leave, please ensure the following:
- Ensure you have all your belongings.
- We do not accept responsibility for any items left behind.
- Should you have any food items you wish to leave you can leave it to the staff.
- Please refrain from giving alcohol to the staff or any other locals.
- There is no need to lock as the staff will clean and lock when they done.

We hope you had a wonderful holiday and wish you safe travels back home. We'd love to see you again next year!

CHECK-OUT TIME
Check-out time is strictly 10am. Should you require a later check-out we will do our best but you need to let us know beforehand. If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer a late check-out due to the cleaners needing to prepare for those guests.

CLEANING
You will find the house clean on arrival but please let us know if you are not satisfied. For your convenience, our staff will clean the all areas as well as the verandas on a daily basis. On Sundays the staff will normally leave by lunchtime. After you depart our cleaners will perform that for the next guest. At night time it would be helpful if you could leave the house (particularly kitchen and bbq/braai) area clean and tidy. No need for you to perform a full clean! This just makes it easier for the staff in the morning.

BREAKAGES
We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately - if it's minor we usually won't charge. If it's a larger issue we would like to agree the cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later.
Thank you!

Getting Yourself Oriented

OVERVIEW OF THE AREA
Our holiday homes are located approximately 40km from Port.St Johns, which is the closest town should you need any supplies during your stay. There is a “Spaza” shop close to the house which has the daily necessities but nothing great. There is a decent “liquor store” and larger “Spaza” shop close to the post office which is approximately 10km from the homes. They are expensive so rather go prepared.

SUGGESTIONS IF YOU ARRIVE EARLY
Many guests will arrive before the designated check-in time. The good news is that there is plenty to do. We suggest that guests go to the beach and do whatever they please. That will give you more time to relax once you've checked in! Our staff will look after your vehicles and assist to unload once the homes are ready.
